Stems Gallery is delighted to announce its participation at Basel Social Club with a presentation by Nick Doyle.
In Human Resources, Doyle turns a familiar corporate environment into a charged arena of performance and control. Constructed from repurposed cubicle walls and suspended ceiling panels, the monochrome installation resembles both an office and a game set. Inside, bar stools, filing cabinets, fetish objects, and a spinning prize wheel blur the boundaries between workplace ritual and erotic theater.
Activated throughout Basel Social Club, Human Resources becomes a site of negotiation, role-play, and bodily exchange. Doyle replaces the motivational imagery typical of HR departments with scenes of restrained intimacy and workplace fantasy, where rope work and foot play unfold against the backdrop of office culture. Extending the performance beyond the installation itself, visitors can also purchase a personal artefact of the artist’s labor: Doyle’s used underwear, available at the bar for $20 per pair.
